My first camping-related DIY project - Climashield Pillow

Being cooped up in a tiny New York City apartment for weeks at a time will make you start thinking crazy thoughts like, "hey, maybe I should start sewing my own gear!?".

I bought some Climashield insulation and a bit of Hexon 1.0 from Dutch and kicked out this little pillow. Added some shockcord and a mitten hook to hang from my ridgeline to finish it off. Had a ton of fun and am already thinking about what I'm going to tackle next.

AndyK, that pillow looks great, but what you did is very, very naughty. You are into it now. Soon enough you are going to building your own Climashield quilts and such.

Be careful out there, and wash your hands. If you make more stuff, post more pictures.

You're so right! I've already been researching DIY quilts.

That pillow looks great, Andy! I see a CS quilt in your future. Maybe a hammock?

Splicing Amsteel is a lot of fun, too. Tons of hammock-related utility, and backpacking in general. Evo loops with button knots alone can keep you occupied for a couple of weeks.... at least learning to tie the button knot. Ask me how I know! But a nicely tied button knot is a thing of beauty when the little petals come out all snug and even.

Looks like a mighty warm pillow! How small does it pack down to?
Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.
