The camping areas were very luxurious! Pit toilets stocked with TP, picnic tables, well-maintained and clean. I was the only one in the site each night and enjoyed the solitude.

Happy to share with my fellow hangers! Unfortunately NC just closed all state park campgrounds indefinitely due to the Coronavirus: https://www.ncparks.gov/

Hopefully you can make it out once things open back up, SoMo is definitely worth a visit.

Thank you Rock! If your bucket list is anything like mine it grows faster than I can knock trips out. It's a beautiful world we live in

Great video Layne! I have been there several times for overnighters staying at Jacob's fork and one other place that I can't remember the name of. I like your three easy day trip.
Quick question, if you did it in reverse, how would the climb be? I remember having about 5 heart attacks going up to the falls. Wondering what the climb is like going up the opposite way and coming down the falls on the third day?
Great job on the history and making it more of a complete trip.

Thanks Dave! The Park does recommend backpackers do the High Shoals Loop portion opposite of the way I did it to avoid that big climb - but ultimately I would say, if you're aiming for a 3-day trip, to do the High Shoals section NOT on a weekend (so if you start on a Friday do the Falls then, or if you start on a Saturday do the falls on Monday) - I imagine that area gets packed and congested pretty easily.

Here is a daily breakdown of the elevation the direction I went: https://caltopo.com/m/4GFS
