Can’t get my tarp Taught, or prevent it from interfering with my hammock suspension

I have been playing with this for a couple months, I have read everything I can find, and watch some videos, but no matter what I do, my suspension rubs the tarp, or completely pulls my tarp stakes out of the ground.

I have a 12’ hanger from UGQ With a Dutch continuous tarp Ridgeline, and a 11’ dream hammock.

I know I can just hang the tarp way above the hammock, but then it if it rains I I just get wet.

I know it’s possible to use in the rain, but without having my hammock suspension at 90 degree and putting the tarp right over it, I am not having any luck.

Can someone walk me through your process, or maybe direct me to something you found helpful?

Is there an exact tree distance I need to find to make this work?

The other issue is I cannot keep the tarp taught. It will start to sag when I stake it down, and if I try to use the pullouts, it makes matters even worse.

I would suggest attending a group hang to see how others do it. Unless you're using paracord, you shouldn't be having these problems (and if you are, stop).

By the way, how can your suspension rub the hammock? That doesn't make any sense.

Are you running the ridge line above the tarp and creating the “v” around your hammock suspension with the tarp ridge line? I like my tarp pitched low too. When I started I found that the Derek Hanson video for rigging ridge lines with two carabiners was the way to go for me because I could get my tarp really taut, then stake it out. Now I use 1 biner and a Dutch stinger. Super tight.

The suspension should not rub the tarp - sounds like you have the tarp too low. Some people complain when the hammock suspension touches the tarp ridgeline - hence, Derek's solution to create a V to stop that. I personally don't care if the hammock suspension rubs against the tarp ridgeline. I can't hear it and don't notice it, and there is absolutely no wear from it.

Some tarps are made with a catenary curve at the ridge line which need to be hung looser rather than tight. Not saying this is your problem but worth looking at. whose tarp do you have?

Never really cared for the V and more often than not my hammock suspension contacts the tarps RL. Not a problem.

The stakes being pulled is a much bigger concern. Hard to imagine that without a violently swinging hammock... help out with a picture of how you’re setting up.
