Hello and Thank you
I joined up mostly to show some gratitude.
So, from the top, so they can hear it in the bleachers,
THANK YOU!
-to all who post here and share knowledge.
I was a tent camper since I was a kid.
I went car camping last year with the family in Acadia at a platform only campground.
That experience sent me searching for a better nights sleep. While the platform was exceptionally bad, normal ground sleeping hasn't been great for years. No pad, blow up, closed cell, hybrid or other, was truly helpful. I just don't sleep well on my back.
I was surprised to find camping hammocks, expecting them to hard on the back. However, so many testimonials from the knee injured and back injured convinced me to give it a try.
The diy set here and a few other places convinced me the entry bar was low and I could do it. Got myself a kit and got to work, gathered end hammock, with a fronkey style bugnet.
I haven't slept so well in the woods since I was a kid.
I really can't thank you enough. This community has made it a pleasure for me to camp again.
Thank you for all the posts, testimonials and how tos.
Cheers

Welcome grendel. How'd the DIY hammock turn out?

It turned out great. Once I wrapped my head around the bits and bobs of connection (no small thanks to Shug's videos there) it was the clear choice to diy.
I was fortunate to already have a sewing machine and the ability to sew a more or less straight line. Even with that, I'd still encourage anyone with the desire to borrow a machine and learn the skill necessary, because it would take very little time to learn (like an additional hour).
Of course I might advise differently for a more comlex set up. But gathered end + fronkey bugnet = simply awesome
Cheers
