    Hammock camping - Raleigh-Durham, NC

    Hi Everyone,
I want to try out and do a couple of ‘test’ hangs with my new Warbonnet Blackbird XLC and Superfly tarp. Does anyone know of a couple hammock campground sites near Raleigh? I am within close driving distance of campgrounds at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Umstead Park. I don’t want to make a campground reservation and arrive only to find the site not suited to hammock camping. If anyone has other locations/areas near and close to the NC mountains, I am open to all suggestions.
    Thanks!

+1 on Yates Place group hang this weekend. Great people, great food, and hopefully great weather. Wish I didn't have to work this weekend or I would be there.

Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, anywhere in Uwharrie NF (about 2 hours west), Medoc SP (about 1.5 hours east) are all hammock friendly. Not sure about Umstead.

When I was at Umstead they allowed two hammocks per site, plenty of trees, but you are close to the airport so you will hear the early flights of UPS and FEDX taking off.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Thanks Tacoma, I live about 5 minutes away from Umstead. Do you have any recollection of what numbered campsite was a good hammock hang?

When I visited my mother in law for Christmas in Durham I got to head over and spend a night at the Eno River State Park (Fanny Ford campsite). I emailed ahead and they said sites 2 and 4 were best for hammocks. Went with 4 and there were plenty of good spots to choose from.

Will second the Uwharries. Its a Nat forest so you can pretty much camp where you want along the trail. Check out the Uwharrie Trail and the Dutchmans Creek Trail off Hwy 24/27.
