This is something I have not thought of.
Are Hammocks heavy? What could be a very strong yet single layer hammock to look for?

I use 1/8 amsteel for added safety margin. And straps weight rated strong enough to do the job will be good. But maybe not get too heavy straps, no use carrying what you don’t need and making a short hike unpleasant.

I recommend that you go to a group hang and odds are you will see rigs used by guys your size.
Good luck and have fun out there!
I had not thought of this before.

Everyone’s needs and comforts are different in the hammock world, but I would certainly take a look there. Good Luck!
I second that hammock nomination! Bill's big guy bridge was the perfect answer for me....another big guy. https://thisgearsforyou.com/

Hammocks aren't that heavy. As a shelter system, they might be a bit heavier than an UL tent. My setup weighs 2lbs 13oz total (hammock+suspension, tarp+suspension, stakes).

The strongest single layer that I know of is Hexon 2.4 at 400lbs. I have seen double layer hammocks that use 2 different fabrics for the inner and outer layers, so the weight wouldn't necessarily double for the materials. Reach out to the vendors, they will definitely help you with the right recommendation.

Welcome aboard from South Lakeland. There was talk of another possibly another hang this season. Keep an eye out. It could be on a short notice. This weekend is looking promising.

I'm about the same weight and use the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC heavy weight dual layer and it works very well. To be extra safe I use the 1/8th vs the 7/64th whoopie slings as well. Have fun!
