I've used the disposable ones in a shirt pocket once sitting on a deer stand in 10 deg F and really warmed me up. I'm considering trying the same for camping and sitting around at night w/o a fire so I can watch the stars. Maybe using loose snow pants and putting one inside them where they aren't directly on skin and get ventilation.

I use them when it gets about 20 or lower ( not too often around here ). When it gets that cold I normally leave my pants on while sleeping, I will place a hand warmer in each of the two front pant pockets as these pockets normally lay over two major arteries and help spread the heat.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

I made a line either a alligator clip at each end. It clips at my feet and at my head in my under quilt. I tied 4 mesh potpourri bags along the line and put a hot hands in each one about 20 mins before I go to bed. It hangs between the underquilt and the body of the hammock. It’s pretty nice and warm when I hit the sack no matter how cold it is. And it stays warm till I get up. Works like a champ

Four mesh potpourri bags - what is that for? A little fragrance?

I will be camping with less than ideal equipment, but, above 30 degrees I'm fine. Temps could very easily dip to ten degrees or below. Please limit comments, if possible, to whether Hot Hands will help. I can read thousands of threads on HF about what equipment will allow me to avoid hand warmers.

    Thanks

They will help! I have come to depend on them so much for winter activities that I buy them in bulk quantities. I love the toe warmers that you stick on the bottom of your socks, under your toes. They have made enjoying winter sports more enjoyable!

I think they work great. If they're hard like a brick in the packet - go get fresh ones! If kept in your pockets, near the femoral artery, they will warm the blood that's heading for your toes and be more effective than keeping them in your socks.

My wife has some larger ones for her back - would be great for a short trip.
