I kind of like velcro for certain applications, but definitely not in my camping kit. The hook and loop construction means that it picks up leaves and dirt and junk, and quickly becomes unusable.

However, it works great in cable management systems (data centers). You dress your cables up with velcro and they're pretty and secure. You might need to undo the velcro occasionally, but it can last a lifetime in that environment. I have rolls of the stuff left over from my days as a network engineer.
