That works well, for the most part, and I am warm & toasty almost everywhere even down into the teens. However - sleeping on my back, my elbows and triceps end up cold even if it's only getting down to 55 - they naturally want to fall beyond the width of the pad & thus have no insulation below. (I'm not huge - M, 5'11", 170, 41" chest/shoulders.)

Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and has found a good solution...
I use a long/wide XTherm MAX (rectangular version). 5’9”, 180lbs, probably a little broader than average chest/shoulders. I’ve found that a foam pad or piece of Reflectix laid across, under the pad works well for shoulder to elbow coverage.

Good idea as well! Good to hear from you, as you are close to our champ for using an inflatable pad(X-Therm) to zero and below.Ducttape(sp?) would be the other, down to minus 22F, but he used CCF pads.

I use the Klymit static V luv, which is 30 inches wide and I really like how it flattens things out. Pretty much everything inside the tape that goes down each side is insulated.

For what your gonna pay for this pad, get a Ridge Creek instead. A real underquilt.

The 25d Ridgecreek XL UQ and a 20d Econ Burrow TQ work great for me. In colder temps I add a Reactor Thermolite sleeping bag liner. In the summer, I can use a Costco down blanket instead as a TQ.
