Well there seems to be a healthy buzz developing. The recent pictures I've seen of Algonquin promise quite a beautiful fall.

I didn't see it mentioned before, but the beach campsite in question is the campsite directly south of the Night Lake portage halfway down the on the east side of Pen. Hopefully it'll be free.

Mr. Jiblets has very kindly taken on the role of poissonnier this time around. All I'd ask is that, as per normal, everyone carries in their own potatoes, as many as you'd eat (1 or 2) and for the love of God, please don't bring extras "just in case".

Mr. Highboy, I'm not sure, but I'd be willing to bet that fresh, hot garlic bread has never, ever been refused in the Algonquin backcountry. Yummers.

In keeping with EGL tradition I'm also pleased to announce that it appears that sunscreen and beach umbrellas will not be required for this trip. Given the forecast, extra tarps and ropes just might be the order of the day.

Has anyone thrown out a time that we'd like to assemble at the Rock Lake access point on Tuesday. 9 or 10 am (10) works for me.

I have to pick up my loaner canoe at Swift Oxtongue, but barring any surprises should be able to make the Access Point between 9 & 10. Once we all get there we can load the barrel & figure out the best location to cache it ... I'm thinking somewhere off the Rock / Pen portage (unless Cruiser51 or Niagara "volunteer" to take it down to Pen for us!)

I've sent 76Highboy, Bubba & Big Green Moose my permit info. So they can jump aboard. Anybody else still lurking in the weeds who might want to come needs to pipe up, the area is completely booked.

Soup Saturday or Friday on Pen ... ergo the cached heavy stuff & pot.

Oh sorry, thought you were going in Tuesday too. Afraid that won't work unless I can figure out a way to tell you exactly where the barrel is hidden.

No worries ... unless someone has a better idea, I'll just paddle up to the portage & retrieve it Friday when we get to Pen.

We are planning a 10:30 start from Rock, so there is a good chance we will meetup.

I will volunteer to get the barrel to the Penn Lake site .... my boat is just right for my gear, so I am pretty sure it will be an extra trip. Are you planning to cache it at the Louisa or Penn portage?

Also, I have never used a barrel .... do we just sit it out of the way or does it need to hung as well?

Huge thanks C51 ... but might turn out to be more trouble than it's worth. With Chard's huge cauldron and all the weekend viddles (& quite possibly scotch), its going to be heavy and must be strung up ... not an easy task, sometimes takes two.

Let's see if we turn up at Rock at the same time & take it from there, eh?

Mark the location with a hand held GPS and then share the exact location (coordinates) and a short description.
