    Question Help with UQ!!!

I know this question is subjective. I am trying to decide on an UQ for my hammock a friend made me. We live and camps mostly in FL. Mostly in fall, winter, and maybe early spring.
The coldest temp I have been in is 25 F. This was in a tent which I was comfortable if not a little to warm. Never been in cold temps in a hammock.
Trying to decide in 40 or 30 degree or possibly colder rating. I personally tend to run on the hot wife while sleeping.
Any and all suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance.

If you think you may possibly camp in 25° weather again, I'd recommend a 20° UQ. That way you know you'll be good for anything. And you can easily vent the underquilt in warmer weather if needed. As long as you adjust your top insulation in accordance with the temperatures, you should stay nice and comfortable.

I have 20F and 40F sets. The 40F set gets used almost year round (except summer) in Florida. The times it drops down into the 20s, it's usually accompanied by high winds from the north/northwest so good tarp coverage or a UQ protector is also needed.

Do you ever use the 20 degree bag in FL? Just curious.

Like said above, a 40 will be good most the year in Fl. But if one UQ is all you’re going to have, a 20 would probably be a better choice. You can always vent and loosen to adjust for warmer temps. Also, ya might wanna look at a synthetic setup here in Florida with the humidity. TheSLD trail winder series is a good UQ. Good luck

I plan on having a TQ as well. Right now I am going to borrow one from my friend that he made out of a slumberjack mummy bag. I know it's not down filled or what the rating is on it. Just no it's heavy. Might be overkill for the temps down here but will have to see.

No, I didn't pick up the 20F set until beginning of fall last year for a Foothills Trail trip that fell through. Our winter here was pretty mild, so the 40F worked out fine.

I use the 20 in FL whenever the temp drops below 40. Would go that route if you can only have one. Will be fine in 40f temps, and if you manage to get too warm, you can vent it a bit.
