    Swapping my suspension (sort of)

All righty hangers, I'm currently hanging in a Dutchware netless that I got without loops. I ran whoopie slings through the channels and hitched it back on it self. I'm considering a Tensa 4 or possibly the solo poles. To do that I need to re-rig my setup. I have some individual strands of Spectron line that I absolutely know will hold a loaded hammock. My plan is to run the Spectron through the channel and either use a double fisherman's knot or a double back figure 8. So to get down to it. How long should the loops be and what knot do you recommend? Is there anything I'm missing?
    Thanks

A standard hammock loop is 8" long when stretched flat. 10" works better if you have a lot of material bulk to whip around (such as when making tablecloth hammocks).

If this is Spectra line, it is spliceable and splicing a continous loop is the preferred way to make one instead of using a knot. Check youtube for DIY continous loop splicing tutorials.

Afterwards, just larkshead the loop through the hammock end channel just like you did with the whoopies, or around the knob if you have a knob.

Thanks for the dimensions, it's not a woven line but a strand from a much larger Spectron (kevlar) line from a ship.

Double-fisherman will probably work. A figure-8 is more of a climbing and security knot.

Another knot-option you can try is making an EVO loop / soft-shackle in one of its many forms. This comes together with a button knot. You wont be able to bury the ends to make it tidy, but it should still work.

For loops on regular cord, i actually prefer a Bloodknot ("Barrel Knot"). I'm not sure how it works with slippery line but i would be interested in finding out.

A good knot for loops is diamond knot. Make sure to hand tighten as much as possible. When first using diamond knot on loop for hammock hanging—keep tails or loose ends long to let knot set tighter by hanging with your weight.
Maybe best when trimming tails—leave about an inch extra.
I have tied a diamond knot and then with long tails tied a marlin spike hitch and used a Sturdy and long stick as toggle.
I tied loop up on tree trunk and grabbed both ends of toggle and hung my weight on marlin spike hitch to set the diamond knot from both ends. It makes a tight knot that way and is less likely to slip.

Thanks all! I'll probably start with the double fisherman until I end up on the ground.

I use a spliced Amsteel or Dynaglide continuous loop with a diamond knot about two inches in from the working end..

8" is pretty standard, but I see no real value in any extra length in this application, so mine are usually a bit shorter..
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

You know after watching that video, I'm going to try that continuous loop with the diamond knot. It looks very handy.
