    PA > Old Loggers Path > 3/21-22 2020

OLP is a 27.1 mile (43.6 km) loop trail in Lycoming County, PA with 3,500 ft (1,100 m) of elevation change. I plan on arriving Friday night, the 20th, and hanging at/near the trailhead so I can get an early start on Saturday. If other people can't make it until Saturday morning I'd be happy to wait. I plan on doing 14ish miles on Saturday and the remainder on Sunday.

I’m going to keep an eye on this and see what’s going on when it gets closer. This trail has been on my to-do list for a while.

whew, if I thought I could do the miles in two days I'd be there with you! Please let us know how it goes and what you think of the trail.

I might be interested. It will depend on my work schedule and possibly the weather. In March you can get anything in terms of weather. I am OK with less than perfect weather but not too eager to be out if the forecast is for two solid days of heavy rain. I have been on Old Loggers Path, although not in quite a few years. It is scenic, especially the streams. Rock Run was once called by a reviewer the most beautiful stream in all of Pennsylvania. There is an unbridged stream crossing on another stream (Pleasant Stream) that could be a concern if the water is especially high but otherwise will add to the adventure. Thanks so much for the invite!

If the forecast is for two solid days of heavy rain, or anything similarly miserable, I'll be rescheduling (or going on a shorter trail closer to home). My free weekends are few and far between so I have to get out when I can but I know where to draw the line.

There are two new shelters on the OLP now. Doe run and Sprowl point ( I think ).
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

This is really a fun loop and not too difficult, although we did as a 2-night, doing about 12 mi/day with a short hike out the last morning. We got a fair amount of rain (seems to happen frequently to me, hmm...) but it did not put a damper on the trip, haha. I'd like to do it again sometime, but maybe peak fall (we were there well past peak) with nice weather!

Several very nice creeks although my fave was Yellow Dog Run:

That looks like directly where I hung, the photo above. Absolutely stunning. I night hiked to the first shelter, so I could camp where Yellow Dog Run and Rock Run meet the second night. I think it was like 16 miles from the shelter. Pleasant Stream is anything but pleasant if the water is high. Actually flash flooded the cabins along it and washed out some of the roadway. Nice trip and fairly easy by North Central PA.

I would agree it is an easy hike for PA.

Black Forest Trail has considerably more uppity-downity to it.

BFT is my favorite hike so far. I've done it twice.
