    Side sleeper chameleon hammock questions

I'm interested in backpacking with a hammock. That said, weight is always a concern. Suffice to say, I'm not a hug fan of the idea of bridge hammocks.

I'm a side sleeper. Don't get me wrong, I can back sleep. However it's very rare for me to back sleep at home. What I never do is stomach sleep. Anyways I turn once in a while, but still favor one side for most of the night. Like I might fall asleep at 8a, then wake up at 4-5a and flip for 40mins, then go back to original position. I'm not partial to sleeping on a particular side either. I sleep with my back toward the inside of my matress, face toward edge. Weather this is my right or left side is irrelevant. If I had to choose, I'd say that I prefer laying on my right more than my left.

I like the idea of a chameleon because the lay direction is interchangeable(and more).

Does anyone else side sleep in a chameleon?

Is a symetrical hammock better since I do turn at times?

Does anyone only back sleep in a hammock but not so much at home?

    Should I rethink bridge hammocks?

Should I consider a wide size?

Is another GE hammock more suitable for me?

    Am I missing something?

Am I thinking about this wrong?

I'm 100% a side sleeper in bed but in a hammock I'm a 100% a back sleeper. don't rule out sleeping on your back in a hammock, I can't sleep on my back in my bed and I can't sleep on my side in a hammock.

I am 100% a side sleeper no matter where I am. I have used a wbbb xlc, a walhalla and a ninox and slept on my side comfortably in all 3

I got my AMOK Draumr on the first Kool-aid discount just because I wanted to be able to side and stomach sleep, but once I learned the fiddle-factors of rigging my standard banana hammocks, I have no trouble side sleeping in them.

Here is a video on side sleeping I did that may give some insight.
I side sleep a little in a bed but never in a hammock.

I'm very similar to you that I side sleep at home and usually prefer one side over the other. I have about 10 hammocks (including 3 bridges - 2 RidgeRunners & a Townsend Luxury). I usually take a Chameleon on backpacking trips (unless I am trying to be ultra lightweight - in which case I'll take my Darien because it is my lightest hammock) and manage to be very comfortable (like sleeping 10 hours) side sleeping. I think that it just takes time finding your sweet spot. A lot of times, I'll fall asleep on my back and stay that way. Sometimes I'll kind of half side sleep. I really like my bridges, but not necessarily for a better side sleeping position. I like to spread my legs out when I am on my side and bridges don't necessarily give you room to do that (I do reverse my lay sometimes and have my feet at the wider end of the bridge to give my legs more room). I just really like the view from a bridge and end up sleeping on my back.

I wish that I could say that there was a simple answer or even that going to a hang and trying somebody's bridge would be a revelation, but I think that it is going to be more of a process spending time in a hammock. I am 5'10" and 180 lbs and prefer my standard width 1.6 Chameleon the best. My 1.0 (which I slept in last weekend) and my Darien 1.2 have a little more sag that might make them a little harder to side sleep in for me, but still sleep better in them than in a bed. In the end, I think that it just takes some time.

I’m a side sleeper most of the time

I think you’ll be fine. I use a blackbird xlc (in 6’3) and sleep on my side all the time. Actually I’ll rotate throughout the night. I have this sweet spot that’s not quite on my side, more like a third of the way turned that I end up in a lot. Sometimes I’ll wake up curled into a ball and stretch out on my back and fall back asleep.

I think you should try a GE and just give it a few tries

I did lay in a DH sparrow for 5 mins and found it very comfy on my back. After this I planned on getting one, but found that Dutch had more to offer for a noob like me.

What is your opinion on asym vs sym for side sleeping?
