    Modified my Darien

As anyone who has a Darien knows, the only negative to the Darien is you cant unzip both sides and adjust your Underquilt. I figured I would remedy that. I installed a 36" zipper on the side that doesn't have a zipper. It works perfectly. The zipper is just long enough to allow me to adjust either end of the Underquilt on that side.

This is cool! I did something similar awhile back on a custom build from Cave Creek Hammocks, it is a great way to save the weight of a full zipper as well. I use my bugnet 95% of the time anyway so I don't need it to come off.

Pretty clever mod. Did you do it or have the Smurfs do the mod? The other option would be to get a Raven hammock. It is indeed a luxury to be able to get out of both sides of the hammock, but the amount of weight saved of darien vs sparrow is significant.

I did the mod myself. In Alabama we have ninja mosquitos so I wanted a complete zip-able bug net.

Ah, so those ninja skeeters would find a way to infiltrate the raven? My Sparrow is a DL hex 70 Nylon Fortress, so pretty impenetrable. My SL Darien of MTN 1.7 XL is pretty tough too. I also use permethrin to keep bugs from getting on my gear.

Both of my Dream Hammocks are MTN fabric. I love it. Double layer 1.2 for the Sparrow and single layer 1.7 for the Darien. Permethrin works great. I try to use it during summer months.

Way to think outside the box! (hammock?) I am still trying to figure out when and where I want a net vs. top cover vs. nothing.
Oooh, shiney! What does THIS button do?

I think having a short zipper for UQ adjustments is a neat idea, and you executed the mod very well. That said, I feel that the UQ hooks on the Darien pretty much eliminate the need to adjust the UQ when I'm inside the hammock. I've also had good luck pushing the UQ from the zippered side, if I ever need to slide it over a bit. Personally, I know I would not be comfortable adding a zipper to my Dream Hammocks! Lol

As for the Raven, I've never had a mosquito get inside- even when I spent 3 days on the OHT in Arkansas- when daytime temps were in the low 90's, and the lows were only in the mid-70's. The skeeters were horrible; but none made it into my hammock!
