I picked up the Bear Butt tarp you see on there with many of the others folks have mentioned here.

It’s a decent tarp - all in with stakes and lines it packs up nicely in its smallish bag and weighs less than 16oz. I think I paid $45 and it has kept me bone dry 5 times now. For the $, I’ve got no complaints. It’s about the perfect size, comes with the basics, etc.

I don’t know what its like now, but most of the manufacturers that were recognizable were out of stock when I bought mine. I had to take whatever color they had on hand.

To do it over and if I hadn’t needed it ASAP, I would go with the MiniFly from Warbonnet. As soon as they catchup and have the one I want in stock, I’ll be switching to that one. It’s reasonably priced and I like the design.

I used a roman ventures tarp for a while
It was 13 ft long. Not the smallest or lightest
But at 20 bucks it was a pretty great tarp.
It came sealed and taped. And kept the wind and rain out.

I also have a 13’ Roman Venture. I’ve had it up in my backyard everyday for the past 3 summers. It hasn’t torn or leaked in all that time, and I’ve left it out in some real bad wind.

My first tarp was an Outdoor Vitals 11 foot tarp. It never leaked and worked fine for kayak camping for about a year. I upgraded to a Dutch 12 foot hex tarp and it was lighter and packed down smaller but was three times the price. Then I upgraded to the tarp I should have started out with, a 12 foot CRO winter haven. The doors are great and the guys from CRO showed me how they arrange shock cord to close up or tie back the doors.

The 11 foot tarp worked but was somewhat claustrophobic. The 12 foot hex gave me a bit more headroom but if the wind shifted I could get cold and/or wet. The winter tarp works great in almost any situation.

I've since upgraded to a Big Guy Bridge from Just Bill and was delighted to find the 12 foot winter tarp works fine with it.
