I have a Chill Gorilla 10x10 that I've used camping for three years and will now use as a hammock tarp. It has held up well. I think most backpacking purists would balk at it as it is kinda heavy, however, it's only 2#1oz with stuff sack a continuous 30' ridgeline (7/32 AmsBlue), soft shackles and prosik knots (w/o included stakes) AND a $1 Loofah snakeskin. Dutch's rectangle, which I would buy if I could, is a tad over one pound.

I like the extra size. It's worth the weight when the weather goes bad. They are around $35. There's a CG 12x12 also if you want to go really crazy or are mostly doing short hikes or car camping.

I will second the rec for the Outdoors Way 12 foot tarp. A bit on the heavy side (2 lbs all told), but a solid rain fly that wont break the bank. I have used it several times camping and it's held up well in some pretty nasty downpours.

They are almost all of decent quality. The big thing is weightweightweigth!

    Clipped at random:
    MATERIAL: Polyurethane-treated ripstop nylon
    SHAPE: Asymmetrical Hex
    REINFORCED CORNERS with 6 tiedowns
    RAIN FLY WEIGHT: 1.4 lbs.
    CENTERLINE: 142"
    WIDTH: 108"

An "un-named" major cottage vendor's version comes in at similar specs, but better fabrics drops the weight to a smidge over one pound. Now, to save .4lb and $70 I [personally] can shave a good bit off the rest of the trash in my pack.
Save your money until you are sure you are going to stick with camping... even after you upgrade, ANY base camp can use an extra tarp!

I thought I'd add to this thread rather than start a new one.
Speaking of Chill Gorilla, I noticed today that there website is down. I don't mean internet service down but there is no content. I went looking after I noticed they're Amazon store is gone and they don't show up in the search.
I wonder if they went belly up? Maybe they couldn't survive the shutdowns?
A day camping in the rain is better than a good day at work,

Their Web site has this announcement: Get Ready... Something Really Cool Is Coming Soon

Perhaps they are relaunching basis on all the positive suggestions provided here.

I started out with a cheap $10 blue tarp from the big box store with some Gorilla tape reforming the grommets and it was OK too.

Another vote for a Paria Hex Tarp from me. Solid deal, solid tarp. Stakes are great, cordage is ok if you aren't trying to tie knots with quick releases (it saws through itself rather quickly), the line-locs don't hold well enough with the supplied 1.5 mm cordage, but they may work better with something thicker.

I have the RainflyEVOLUTION 12x10 from Amazon and it has great coverage and worked very well for me while car camping. I have since upgraded, but have used it for friends when they tag along.

Another one I tried, but ultimately returned was the Easthills Outdoors Dragonfly. I had the 12x10 flat cut and it was great for what it was. I ultimately returned it as I went with something lighter, but would work great for car camping as well. It ultimately just came down to weight for me, the Easthill Outdoors was 720g compared to the DWG Xenon which was 560g. It actually reminds me a lot of my Xenon Winter Tarp from DWG in terms of size and how it has the ability to have doors, which is really hard to beat for $48 on sale at Amazon.

Or, just Covid supply chain issues cause them to be low on stock.
