Question Hughes Gap in Tennessee parking

memorial day weekend I'm going to be in East Tennessee and on Memorial Day I'm wanting to park at Hughes Gap on the AT and hike and camp at Roan Mountain Shelter and hike back to the car the next day. does anyone know if that area has an issue with car break ins?

Is there parking at Hughes Gap on 1330? I looked at Google Maps and it didn't look like there was any parking there?

according to the A.T. Guide book there is....might be on the side of the dirt road. I was at this gap last memorial day on a day hike it's a dirt road and I think there was a small area you could park. I watched a youtube video where a guy parked at Hughes Gap

There is definitely room to park several cars there, but I can't speak to overnight safety. I have only parked there for day hikes. There is only a short section that is unpaved and there are plenty of homes heading down from the gap on either side so there is a fair bit of traffic.

My opinion - Talk to nearby shuttle drivers and ask them about parking there. They probably have the local vibe.
