I got a reply from Dutch and he said the hookworm should work well with 2mm cord, "Yes it does. The hole has a taper so it is bigger in one side. It will work either way but it is easier. To thread through the larger side". After all this looks like I can just give the original setup a try!

One other thing, if you melt the ends of your cord, you might have to do that after threading through the Hookworm, or make sure the melted end doesn't exceed the normal diameter of the cord.

Appreciate the heads up. I gave it a test and did run into that being an issue. Fortunately I ordered both hookworm and the line lock hooks (at 35 cents a piece not trying them seemed silly) and those thread just fine after melting. Only got to hang my tarp up for a little bit but did 3 line lock hooks and 3 hookworms. At the moment the line lock hooks feel better and I can adjust them even with heavy winter gloves on. For the hookworms I ended up having to take off both the heavy gloves and my liners, but I noticed by the time I finished I was getting better at it so possibly with practice that would go away. If the line lock hooks pack up okay with the stakes I think that it what I will go with for now.
