You could get a wide underquilt so that it comes up higher on the sides. But if you don't go netless, this will not do much for you. You'll just have a lot of insulated area that you won't use. You could use a pea pod style underquilt, but that won't work well with longer hammocks - and it won't work with nets / top covers. For me, the Wooki is the best underquilt there is. It's not even a contest, because it fits so much better than any underquilt I have had or used. I would go with a Wooki and an UQP plus top cover or a sock for the cocoon protection.
If I could only have one UQ it would be the Mt Washington 4 from Jacks R Better.
Thank you very much
Don't forget to update us on what you come up with. We love closure and pics... we love pics.... and pop-tarts. Send us pics with your hammock, UQ and enjoying pop-tarts.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
Can I piggyback on this post? I'm gonna get my first premium underquilt. I have a Chameleon. I want a 20 degree but was wondering the difference between a 20 degree and an overstuffed 30 degree.
Pretty good discussion HERE.
Personally, I buy the rating I need, not a warmer rating and then have down added. Warmth depends on loft and too much overstuff reduces loft. BUT, you'll see plenty of anecdotal info about overstuff eliminating thin (cold) spots and reducing the need for down redistribution.
BTW, to search HF it is far better to use Google and not HF search tool!

Hammock Gear also indicated it was generally better to get the warmer UQ than add a lot of overstuff to a less warm rated one. They said a little overstuff might aid is stabilizing down distribution. That was it’s purpose, and not primarily to make things warmer.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
I have two wookies from Warbonnet. They are so stupid simple I love them. Definitely recommend if you have an xlc.
I use a Hudson from Jack's... It's extra wide, super warm in the 20° model and the sides come way up I can even fold them under and ty them with a little shop cord and make like side baffles. It works great!
