Winter tarp - snaps or just overlap doors

I know there are a few tarp threads going but have another question. Last night we had a decent storm here in MA. It was unseasonably warm, in the upper 40's and we got 0.7 inches of rain with steady winds around 20 mph and gusts up to 38. I had my hammock pitched in my back yard between a big tree (8' circumference) on the head end and another tree and bushes at the foot end, so I had wind breaks. I used a HG Journey tarp staked about 6" off the ground with the door ends overlapped around 4" with shockcord to the tieouts. I stayed dry through the storm, but the doors often billowed out from the wind gusts. This got me to worrying how dry I would have stayed if I weren't camping in a controlled area and couldn't find a good wind block. How much better are winter tarps with snaps on the doors at keeping out rain and snow rather than just overlapping them?

Never considered snaps because snaps fail, and I'd rather just do without than go through that. I'm not a snap fan.

    Such is the Tarp Life.
I have a Winter tarp with velcro doors that I find very effective but the last couple of years have just overlapped my Superfly doors if I need a block on both ends.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I might be overthinking it. I might consider snaps when I need to replace my tarp but no need to run out and buy one. The Journey's done me fine so far.

Nothing wrong with overlapping, but snaps are nice to add some room. Getting it sealed up then pulling that out to a point sort of gives a beak effect. TONS of room with my 12' SLD Winter Haven.

On the heavy silpoly, mine feels bulletproof. I'm not worried about putting a good deal of stress on the snaps. In the end, not necessary at all.

I originally planned on doing velco on my superfly but angling and overlapping has done me well enough I really don't see the need. I've had some pretty decent winds and rain coming through but angling your doors to advantage and tucking in the leeward door behind it has kept me dry... and... let's me leave a bit of a gap between them for ventilation.

Also, with snaps you really need to get the setup right. So many times I set up then went to shut doors but the snaps wouldn't even come together. You almost have to snap them shut first then stake out, check the tension, and adjust. Truly a winter tarp for me when I'm fiddling more. It's too big for backpacking anyway.

I just overlap on DIY winter tarp. Even when it's windy and the flaps blow out a little bit, I have never had an issue with rain/snow blowing in.
