I sleep mostly on my back but when I turn on my side my shoulder/elbow that is on the hammock gets cold. I’m warm otherwise but not sure how to keep that from happening.

With an underquilt, I assume? I'd check the end cinches. I was cinching them too tight for a long time, and I found that shifting like that could really exacerbate the problem.
It's often extremely helpful to get someone to check the hammock and quilt for gaps...I've had a lot of trouble with gaps opening as I move around. Still learning...
I agree. The quilt may be gaping beneath your shoulder when you change position. I have found there is a tendancy for that to happen with gathered end hammocks and UQs. What is a perfect fit when on my back may not be so when on my side. This is a problem I don't have with bridge hammocks and quilts or any hammock with pads.
It’s also worth shifting the down around every so often to ensure that it’s evenly spaced across the quilt.
I sometimes get CBS if I don’t do this. Two minutes shaking and hitting the down back into position and the problem goes away until the next time.
If your knees are bent/fetal position, you're switching from something like 14" wide to almost double (depending on your size/height). That's a huge difference for the UQ to adjust to. There are certainly some gaps letting cold air in.
Just had this happen last night. Was on back to start but shifted to side sleep (normal for me). I also got out to water stuff 2X, but early this AM I had the top side cold shoulder and the quilt had shifted a bit. stoopid me but my relatively new hammock has little clips to help keep quilt in place but didn't use all of 'em. You can surmise which one was one of the ones not in use.
Will try have to try again to be sure that is my answer.
