Proper way to hook suspension to carabiners for Blackbird XLC?

So I love my new blackbird xlc. But I don’t like bundling wet suspension with a dry hammock, and I don’t like fiddling with the straps through the cinch buckles since I always seem to get it backwards. I was hoping I could just put a Dutch Biner in between. All I see to connect is what I guess is the ridge line with the continuous loop on the cinch buckles.

Will that work? I saw that it comes all wrapped around the end of the hammock, so is it bad to unwind that and connect carabiner between cinch buckle continuous loop and the ridge line?

I tried to watch a Shug video on it (love Shug! Deer fight!), but he seemed to have a ridge runner with a different setup.

Well, didn’t seem very applicable to me. Doesn’t really answer my question I don’t think. Install continuous loops?

I would put a continuous loop if you want to use a dutch biner.

If you're asking to just connect to the ridgeline, the answer is no.

The way it's set now, the CL is passed through the loop end of the ridgeline and the CL takes the entire load from both the hammock and ridgeline. If you connect a carabiner between the cinch buckle/CL to the ridgeline, the ridgeline is taking the entire load and will destroy your bugnet.

Just my two cents... learn how to thread and unthread the straps through the buckle. I’m sure if you practice it 10x you’ll have it for life.

I have an XLC and rarely unattach the straps from the hammock.

If you like carrying the straps separate and want to ditch the hardware altogether, consider just tying one of the many basic hammock knots: Becket Hitch, J-Bend, X-Bend, Lapp, etc. Then you don't need to buy anything new and can use the loop already on there (just ignore the metal bits or remove them if you desire.)

Just another though...and I can't believe my OCD lets me get away with this. But I just put one strap in wadded up in one end of the sack, then hammock, then other strap. I never noticed the hammock getting wet. Even though straps absorb water, it just doesn't seem like much. If the hammock does get wet, it's only the first few inches where you and the UQ won't touch anyway. Just an option to keep it simple and with no way of ever forgetting straps.

This for me as well! ^^^^^^^^^

Different story for tree sap, for sure, but with damp suspension straps it really doesn't hurt anything to put them in with the hammock.
