Considering moving to a LiteAF DCF tarp....question

Over the winter I have purchased a few tarps including a UGQ Penny pincher Hex and Warbonnet Thunderfly. Ive since decided that I may offload these and go with the LiteAF hammock tarp with doors that was just released.

My only concern with a DCF tarp in the packability. Ive read they take up more room and space is at a premium in my 40L pack. Can anyone comment on that, or on the LiteAF in particular?

It is true. None of my DCF tarps pack down as small as my silnylon or silpoly tarps.

Yep, my Cuben Fiber tarp is larger than two of my same sized silPoly tarps. Each are 12' tarps. The CF has no doors the silPoly does.

I've seen a lot of folks use tarp sleeves, rolled up and stored in the outside pocket rather than inside the pack. How big is the front pocket of your pack?

That's how I pack mine as well.

Sleeves make the storage easier, but doesn't reduce the size of the resulting package.

If you dig around in past posts in the sub you'll surely find comparison pictures of Silpoly versus DCF. This question is asked with some frequency. Sorry I don't have links.

All of my DCF tarps pack larger than any of my old silpoly tarps, and was concerned when I made the switch to DCF, but I was pleasantly surprised that all of them packed smaller than I expected. Larger than silpoly but by no means LARGE. I worried for no reason. I often pack mine in a side pocket in the ZPacks Arc Blast and Nero.

Go for it, they aren't that bad..
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

It's a massive difference, but you immediately get used to it. And like others have said, they can pack smaller than you initially think. I pack mine very tightly.

I got rid of my DCF tarp after the first trip; didn't like it in general. But the pack size didn't bother me. The DCF stuff sack it was in was so slick, you can just pack everything...then slide it inside towards the front of the pack. One of those "always room for one more thing" situations. It was more of a large rectangle, but flat.

Put it in a sleeve then roll that like a firefighter hose instead of just jamming it into a big ball.

    Silpoly vs DCF...no big deal.
