you can't really go wrong with reputable gear from reliable makers.
think carefully about which parts of the experience are most important to you.
when i started researching my first hammock (one i still sleep in every dingdang night, indoors and out), i saw posts from guys who were happy to tough out cold nights for weight savings. not me; a sleepless night in the cold can set me back a week in terms of overall fitness. i saw posts from guys who think nothing of whipping up some DY stuff. not me; half the time my prototypes end up costing more than the expensive gear in the first place.
i settled on warmth, durability, and insect-resistance. you can always vent a warm quilt, so if you can only buy one, go cold.
