That's a piece of intel I stumbled on here in the forums myself; just thought I'd pay it forward! And make sure you get "universal" or "microtex" (sharp) needles. "Ball point" needles are not your friend!

I picked them up locally after an amazon fail (tiny junk)

I used the same ones at the onset. Found they didn't have as much grip as was needed with this slippery fabric. There are a few sizes.. I find the Mini's are best.

The throat is 1/2" deep which helps with sizing rolled seams without the need of a ruler or seam gauge.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I just got these yesterday: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._title_o02_s00

WOW! Break-your-finger-strength (if they opened big enough to get a finger in!) Perfect for sewing, but probably going to replace my wooden ones for hanging clothes as well. Smaller and stronger.

Yep... those will work just fine. Maybe a bit more than what is needed on the whispy thin fabric we play with, but better than the wooden ones.

Here's another thing I really wanted to make. A sheath for my Silky saws. They either come with nothing, or a big plastic case. So I would always carry mine in an old sock. Not 100% necessary, but there are still some sharpish edges I don't want rubbing on other gear.

The red is a very nice color. It's almost impossible to get a photo because it fakes out the camera. I'm sure there's a fancy trick to hide that stitching for the velcro, but I couldn't figure it out on my own so I just went with this. Love this 600D fabric!!

If you made the flap just a little longer, you cold sew the velcro to the very end of the flap, then fold the flap over so it's double up and the velcros' stitches will be hidden inside. You'd just have to pay attention to right side vs wrong side so you don't sew the velcro inside the doubled over flap. I'd have to play around with some paper, then run a test piece to make sure I got it right..

What makes those work well for the thin, slippery fabrics are the little bumpy "teeth" they have.

On a related note, I just noticed in 90% of the sewing how-to videos on youtube people have a British accent.

The general recommendation in sewing circles is to replace your needle for every project. I don't quite follow that but needles are disposable and cheap compared to everything else.

90 sounds like a lot until you are clipping a large size tarp of super-slick material and want to have clips every handful of inches. You'll be glad to have that many. Also, I've a a couple break but I think that was just culling out the weaklings from the herd.
