Or maybe I'll just stick to my gathered end hammock, let's be honest, I'll always end up back there anyways
There's the Catch-22 with hammocks that use air mats as essential components.

With GE hammocks some people carry an air mat as backup in locales where hanging might not be possible, or if the hammock splits. With Haven, Amok and the like, if the air mat fails you have neither a ground mat nor a hammock.

Yes, repair kit is a given but many air mat leaks can be devilishly hard to find. Slow leaks are the worst!

I once spent a couple of miserable nights blowing up an air mat every hour or so and wasn't able to find the leak until after returning home and submerging the thing in a bathtub.

And with a big hammock rip... well that's pretty much non-repairable in the field or otherwise.

I like my chances of field repairing an air mattress with the included repair kits vs dealing with a split/torn gathered end

Indeed. If we had back-ups for every possible contingency our packs would be very heavy. Gotta go with the averages.
