EGL Valens Gearing Up for Winter Hang: Jan 10-12th, 2020 - Torrential Tortillas

    Hey gang.

Rain. Not a run of the mill drizzle. Rain. Throw in some freezing rain and then snow on top of that this morning and you've got an idea of the weather. Typical Valens hospitality.

Despite that I think everyone had a great time. We managed our best ever three tarp arrangement that kept us dry under even the heaviest downpours while at the same time we managed to keep the damp and chill away with a roaring fire.

Both nights were spent under the wonderful pitter-patter of rain on our tarps. Snuggled into my hammock the first night, I took out my phone and recorded that relaxing sound. In the morning I was surprised to see that I had recorded eight hours of audio but when I hit play I had to laugh; three minutes of relaxing rain was followed by another seven hours and fifty seven minutes of loud snoring by yours truly.

Menu: Beef tacos, fish tacos, breakfast burritos, lettuce wraps, bacon, lamb, pork, ribs, popcorn and a couple of killer bowls of dip that all kept the grumbling tummies to a minimum.

Given the extreme soggy conditions, looks like you outdid yourselves in the culinary & tarp-structure departments. Nicely done.

Wonder if the forum will embed videos as well, or just show the link?

Great shots! Glad to see that the group of internet weirdos is getting bigger. You are all my heroes. That was a soggy weekend.

Yeah, it would have been far more miserable if we didn't have that impressive tarp setup over the fire and picnic tables!

Around the fire, I mentioned the Comanche's world record setting transatlantic run. Here's the YouTube video I was referencing: it was actually 5 days 14 hours from New York to the southern tip of England.

Good to see the gang again. The tarp set up was so good, I stayed dry all weekend. It was very enjoyable listening to the rain on the tarp while laying in my hammock. Temperature was a bit crazy on Friday but got more toward the season on Sunday. Still hoping for some snowy camping.

Thanks for sharing your pics & vids peeps!

Thanks for welcoming me into the group. I promise a decent approximation of gulasz in the bogracz next time I'm out with you.
