    Clear tarp

I love it when the weather gives me that rare opportunity to hang without a tarp on a clear night.

Does anyone make a completely clear tarp? I know dyneema is close but it not quite clear enough for me. With all the fantastic fabrics and colors and designs now-a-days it seems like this could be done.

Google "youtube polycryo tarp" and you'll get oodles of hits.

Used to be sold by Gold Gear (David Gardner) but no longer, but he and others (per above) have videos on how to make them.

Polycryo can be surprisingly durable, but if you get the tiniest tear it will spread very quickly.

Dang I can't find it now, but just yesterday I saw a bunch while browsing. They were out of the UK and cost a decent amount, but that was for the larger 16' ones I saw.

Window shrink film insulation is available from any local hardware retailer.

I should have qualified my request with ". . . with similar qualities to my Superfly". So, durable, lightweight, packs small, etc.

I'll try some I-net searches. Maybe I'll get lucky.

I don't think you will, but feel free to try. Dyneema is about as clear as you'll get, or you can go with a disposable polycro tarp held together with duct tape.

I concur with SS that you're probably not going to find something that is clear with all those attributes.

There are some mountaineering tents that have small clear windows but that material (I'll guess it's polyurethane) is comparatively very heavy and would not pack small.

Back to polycryo window film, there is the .75 mil thickness for that and also the 1.5 mil that comes in larger sheets for patio doors and it is tougher but still pretty light.

On a clear night, why bother with a tarp? Just go topless and see the stars directly.

Or just set up the tarp and hang both sides on one side of the hammock so you can deploy it fast if needed
