Is red bridge the one on the south end of the loop? Are you going up the MRT or the NCT side?
Is red bridge the one on the south end of the loop? Are you going up the MRT or the NCT side?
I believe it is the south end . If you google red bridge trail head Manistee river trail it pops up . We sent a scout up there this weekend . He reported a plowed parking lot on the west side of the bridge .
We are taking the trail on the east side . The other trail on the west was closed off .
He also
Reported that the trail at the beginning would be a little treacherous for a pulk and could pull you down the bluff .
He cut across country
Just a few hundred meters east of the bridge in a north westerly direction .
This way brought him to our campsight over looking the valley just in a few hundred meters (430)
He even shot an azimuth if you need it . He ( castle 22 on BCUSA ) is going up Friday morn to break trail to the camp. He suggests dropping off your sled at a point along the road , go park your car on the other side of the bridge and walk back easterly to a point across from the snow mobile trail
and then just walk NW into the woods . If you’re on BCUSA I’ll try to include you into the conversation .
Anyone going up Thursday?
Dogger
I'm up friday night or Saturday morning. Green Timbers will be 10 days.
Castle 22 andrhe little iron butterfly will be there at 9 or 10 Friday morn .
He says to walk app 800 meters east of the bridge along Coates hwy to the place where the snowmobile trail intersects from the south .
Then just strike off into the woods at azimuth 317 degrees
for 430 paces .
That whole bluff is apparently flat on top however .
Sounds like campsite 10B? I may shoot up there Saturday night depending on how plans go that day. It would be nice to see you Joe...last time was at Hoist 2014!
That was the rainy one right . I think you got in the night before everyone else .
That was not an easy hike for me . First time using snowshoes then rain then turning to snow .
Sounds like the manistee trail is more for guys like you that use ruck sacks instead of sleds .
Well we can look around this time and maybe find something a little more remote for the future .
One thing is the downright spectacular view . Castle 22 took
a picture on his scout trip last Friday and it looks like a postcard .
Wish I could transfer it here .
Yeah I remember getting in there at 11pm, 7° breaking trail. 3club rolled in sometime around 3am! Then the rain/snow mess.
If I am thinking of the same spot, here is a view from 10B. Always loved that perfect little christmas tree across the river
That’s the spot . I didn’t even notice the post with 10 b printed on it when I looked the first time . He sent a photo of the woods and I assumed it was a snow mobile trail marker . I also see one of those stupid Michigan fire rings with no primary air holes and up high so you can’t warm your feet .
The Christmas tree is bigger now .
