    Storage ideas

So How does everyone store their equip when not in use? I've got a bit of an opportunity to create an organizational footprint for all my gear. I need some good creative ideas to keep it neat. The only detractor is critters. This is going in my garage and unfortunately there are mice and chipmunks in there, and apparently a +4' black snake though I haven't seen him. Just several sheds of his. Throw out ideas and pictures please.
Side note, I had this in the house jammed into totes and everytime I would go afield, I would up-end the tote to sort thru my gear. It also filled half a room in stacked totes.
Not all who wander are lost.

Which "storage" thread should we reply to?

Maybe use a variety of smaller containers inside your tote to seperate like items so it's not such a jumble to sort through? Ie., tarp suspensions/tie-outs, hammock suspensions, connectors (biners, shackles...), etc. If you don't already use them, cotton laundry bags are great for storing quilts and such. Basically breaking down your tote into sub sections for easier access. Possibly break up your gear into seasons or hammock/tarp/suspension setups.

    Here's what I do:

    1. Tie a bunch of alpine butterfly loops in some cord.

    2. Hang it from the ceiling or wall.

    3. Attach your stuff sacks or gear bags to the loops. (You can tie a knot with the drawstring, or use a carabiner/mitten hook etc.)

I'm migrating mine to the garage right now. I built 8' of cheap shelving along a wall that can hold 12 of those large black and yellow totes from your local big box store. They seem critter proof enough for my needs.

The plan is to cut dividers out of 1/4" material so I can keep some sort of order within the totes.

Don't think I'll store my quilts in them or the garage, but all other gear will go in them.

Depends on your gear, but here's what I'm thinking for mine:
1 bin for packs, sacks, straps, and clothing that only goes camping
1 for camp kitchen, stoves, etc
1 for hammocks, tarps, suspension and misc
1 for tent, poles, sleeping mats, etc
1 for car camping gear if I can't fit in the first four logically

    Here's the shelving I built. https://youtu.be/cTxRBckenI4

My garage is primarily used as a woodshop, so closed bins are necessary. I'll probably grab some harbor freight drop cloths to make cheap curtains and reduce the dust building up on the bins.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Please keep this thread on the topic of hammock specific gear. If it moves off topic to general camping year (pots, pans, fire tools, etc) it will be moved to the Donating member area.

    Thank you

Unfortunately my experience is rodents will chew on anything and may get into plastic containers but only those filled with hammock gear.

Any option for building a dedicated and "sealed" gear closet in the garage?

    Absolutely... hammocks only.
The hammocks will be stored loose in a bin, with a divider separating them from the tarps, suspensions, and biners, etc.

Quilts will stay hanging in bags in the basement.

I'm very happy with these for my hammock gear. I've got a few, some for other camping type stuff but for me they are spot on for quilts and such.

I don't store my gear in the garage and wouldn't even though I would have a bit more space there, simply because I'm worried about condensation. However, I have been having problems with mice and crickets getting into the house occasionally, so I got euroboxes without openings and locking lids for everything apart from quilts. These boxes are used by businesses and are much more sturdy than anything I have seen offered for consumers, and they have been working perfectly for one and a half years now.

I store my quilts uncompressed in large uncoated nylon stuff sacks hanging from the ceiling or the walls. This keeps them lofted, vented and protected from critters.
