The weather doesn't look good for my 12 mile loop in the Wilson Creek Wilderness - too much like the fluctuating raining/freezing/snowing weather I encountered with Doctari and Bonsaihiker and Chickadee 5 years ago or so. If I get there by noon on Thursday, I'll set up my rig at the campground, then a scouting trip down toward Wilson Creek. I want to see what that first creek crossing looks like. If time permits (not likely) I'll head out the Orchard Seed Road toward Wise to see what the Quebec Branch crossing looks like. I still want to do that Wilson Creek Loop some day, but may wait for dryer, warmer weather. Having said all that, if the weather looks okay, I'd be interested in hiking up to Thomas Knob instead. There's strength in numbers.

I’m in for an overnight to Thomas knob. Want to meet at the group camp or the overnight parking area?

Shucks ! Not rain again ! More than likely frozen rain with the wind chill. We'll get the tarp up Thursday. It's high over the fire ring.

Sounds good to me too. I plan on being at base camp by noon and Massie Gap by 1pm so we can meet up at either spot.

I'm planning on setting up my 2nd tarp at base camp to have a spot that's relatively dry in case there's a dusting of snow before we get back on Friday. I was also just planning on starting from base camp since the park website says that a permit is required to park in the overnight lot now (effective 10/01/19).

Hey guys, looks like I will not be able to make it this year after all. Had some stuff come up that I need to take care of. May the weather gods of the north be with you.

See you at the next one.

I’m in for leaving from base camp. I will see y’all there. I think I’m going to tarp camp or sleep in the shelter at Thomas knob so I can leave my hammock at base camp
