Hammock Gear - Dyneema Fiber Standard Tarp With Doors
Hammock Gear - Dyneema Fiber Palace Tarp

I've been using a standard, 12 foot DCF tarp with doors from Hammock Gear, with my Ridgerunner and really like it.
I sometimes wish it were another foot longer because the is a small gap where the dog bones come together. It's never been an issue because the trap is much longer than the hammock anyway.
In inclement weather, I wish the sides were a little taller but again, I pitch the tarp low and wide and it's never been a problem.
I also tried pullouts and trekking pole spreader bars and decided that neither were necessary.
Because those interior D-rings for a bug net were mentioned, I believe they are only standard on WB's 13 ft model. But for me, the main benefit of the 13 ft superfly is setting the panel pull-outs in the best place for the ridge runner. If I were to start over, I'd probably get the internal pole mod. Maybe I'll have that added later (pole at each end). No fussing with exterior poles and it gives a better shape. But exterior - either guyed or with poles really opens it up too.
Pay attention to the wind direction. If you are broadside to the wind, that's going to put a lot of force on the tarp. If you can get perpendicular, then you will a smaller surface area facing the wind and its sheltered by the tree. When I did that, perpendicular the wind forces seemed to lift the sides out rather than push them in.
The Universal by JRB has d-rings inside so you can lash your hammock to one side of the tarp (a gathered end hammock) to hold it out of the way if you want more "inside space" when not in the hammock.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
I have 2 13' winterdream tarps for my rr and love them.

Some photos of my UGQ winterdream, which I use with a ridgerunner. I have done the end pole mods and the shorter top pole mod. Mucch prefer the end poles for roomieness and porch mode. One photo is of the winterdream inside with my hennessy.IMG_5875.JPG IMG_5874.JPG, IMG_5873.JPG, IMG_5876.JPG
Hello,
I've lurked around here for a couple of years. Recently got the Ridgerunner epiphany, and have benefited by combing through all the WB threads here. Thanks for all the great info.
Chiming in now to ask if anyone has tried the WB Thunderfly. I am waiting to receive and set up my RR before ordering the tarp, but that's where I am leaning. I have an 11 ft Dyneema tarp with doors that I could use, but seems like it just wouldn't be long enough? The Thunderfly would add another 5 oz, but seems like a good compromise. Curious why no one has mentioned it yet in this discussion.
Thanks for any thoughts you might add.
I use a thunderfly quite a bit. Just enough coverage for some pretty ugly weather, and the size isn’t so big that it becomes a burden. Works fine with the Ridgerunner and gathered ends. The dog bones on the Ridgerunner are exposed at the ends of the tarp, but I’ve never had water reach the hammock. I also added drip lines to each one of the suspension dog Bones. Works perfect.
