Tarp For A Ridgerunner

After doing a few nights with my 13 ft ENO tarp that does not have panel pulls or anything to prevent the middle from bowing in with wind I decided to get a new tarp. I'm the sort to want excess coverage so a tarp with a lot over coverage and enough support to give my RR plenty of space to hang comfortably inside with the wind blowing I narrowed it down to the options at the bottom. Some questions I have been waffling on though:

1. The Hammock Gear Dyneema tarp configuration has a section that says, "Is this tarp for a bridge hammock?" but does not actually list what that would change... Anyone used either the standard or palace with a Ridgerunner? Feel like there was enough room underneath for the spreader bars to move a bit without whacking into the side?

2. I have seen some mentions on the forum that the Superfly comes with rings on the ridge line which are convenient for hooking up the bug net. Have people run into issues using doors and getting the bug net up high enough on the tree with the doors shut?

3. One post I was reading said the Winterdream was great with the RR but in hindsight the person wished they went with the XL. Any other experiences here?

I use the 13’ superfly for the ridge runner. The rings in the ridge line do a fine job of keeping the bugnet up, and keeps those lines under the tarp and out of the rain. The doors will completely close at the ends and it does a great job of keeping out the weather. The panel pulls work pretty good with the rods that Warbonnet sells. Wind is still an issue with a tarp this large and I would ask them to add tie outs in the middle of the sides for extra support in wind. The new dutchware tarps look great and have a nice pole mod setup, with more tie outs.

X2 I went superfly too pretty much for the same reasons. The panel pull out poles you might consider doing your own. It's much less expensive and you can do your own length (I wanted mine a few inches longer).

The HG tarp... they ask if it's for a bridge hammock to determine where the panel pull outs will be placed. For bridges they are further apart and more in-line with the spreader bars to allow more room for easier access past them. There may be more to it, but that's all I'm aware of.

No experience with the UGQ's.

The big draw for the Winterdream is the end poles, seems quite unique to that tarp. Then again at the moment I am leaning towards just using my trekking poles for the pull outs over a continuous ridge line so could be a feature I never get around to using.

For just an overnight trekking poles are a good option. No point lugging on more gear. If you're staying on a day or two then you have to consider that either you won't have use of your poles for day excursions or taking them down and back up... which isn't so easy when your tarp is fully pitched out.

Not that guy-lining them isn't always an option.

So far all of my experiences have been up and down the Superior Hiking Trail, dropping my car off at one trailhead and then hiking back to my car. That has meant packing up everything each morning so I would not mind having the poles stranded overnight. Definitely something I will keep in mind as I get to explore new areas.

One thing about using a Winterdream with a Ridgerunner that no one has yet mentioned: when you order the tarp from UGQ, you can specify that the tarp will be used with a Ridgerunner. They will then move the side pullout locations to match the spreader bars of the RR. A very nice customization at no charge from them.

The same goes for one of Jared's tarps from SLD - he will space the poles to match the spreader bars on the RidgeRunner. That being said, if I had it do do over, I would order all 3 poles to give you more options to which poles you want to use. I just got the 2 end poles on my 13' Wind Haven, but there have been times that I wish that I had ordered all 3 like I did on my 12' Winter Haven.

Well I was definitely looking for a 6th option! Mind telling me a bit more about the options you chose and what you like about it? Some of the configuration options on the site look really interesting and this video review with 3 poles inside... I don't think I have ever seen a tarp looking so large inside.
