[QUOTE=Saltfly;2007019]I use a thunderfly quite a bit. Just enough coverage for some pretty ugly weather, and the size isn’t so big that it becomes a burden. Works fine with the Ridgerunner and gathered ends. The dog bones on the Ridgerunner are exposed at the ends of the tarp, but I’ve never had water reach the hammock. I also added drip lines to each one of the suspension dog Bones. Works perfect.

Saltfly, what is the length of your thunder fly that you use with the ridgerunner?

11’. The RR is a short hammock so it doesn’t take much to cover it. It’s the suspension that protrudes past the tarp. I have a 13 superfly that is real nice but I use the thunderfly more often because of the ease of a smaller tarp

So who uses a DCF/Dyneema tarp with a Ridgerunner? There's only two options for winter use, right?

    Hammock Gear and Dutchware Gear:
    https://hammockgear.com/dyneema-fiber-palace-tarp/
    https://dutchwaregear.com/product/wi...posite-fabric/

Which one is better for the Ridgerunner? I see both are only 12 feet, is that long enough for the RR? What about the spacer bars, are they a problem with those tarps?

I have the 12ft HG fiber palace and use a WBRR. I definitely recommend that you state to the vendor that you are using a bridge hammock to space out the pullouts wider than usual and I would make sure to use the pullouts. I purchased bridge buttons to keep from putting holes in my DCF tarp and I would recommend those to anyone as the first purchase when considering a WBRR. The 12fter was long enough to have 1-1.5ft of coverage on each end. I know some people have stated that going longer increases the difficulty in getting the appropriate height but I'm 5'6" and had no issues.

Thanks for that post, Mescript. Can you fully close the doors with the HG tarp or not? Some videos on Youtube suggest that's not possible when you pitch the tarp wide enough for the Ridgerunner.

I just finished a 20 day trip with the RR and the 12 foot HG palace. I was able to close the doors practically all the way but I also shortened my dogbones down to 37" at both the head and foot end. I also attach the doors to the guy line on the opposite side which pulls them in. If you were tying them out to a stake or something to give extra room that would probably help it close even more. As it was I had 0 concern about any weather getting in through the tiny gap though. Wind would have to be so bad at that point I should probably have bailed for safety.

I have been using the WB Thunderfly tarp with my RR now for 3+ years and have been very satisfied with the combination. Very recently my setup was subjected to 2 1/2 days of hard, steady rain and wind in the Adirondacks and it worked fine.

    Thunderfly Tarp

My TF is 13 ft. and was recommended by Warbonnet when I purchased the RR. There's plenty of overhang on both ends and the end doors close things off nicely. It works well in full or half porch mode and I have the extension poles as well.
