Is an uq protector needed with a Superfly

I just upgraded to a WB Superfly thanks to the incredible year-end sale. I camp primarily in Fall and Spring in Ohio and PA, with some mild winter trips. The weather can produce driving sideways rain, wet sloppy snow, and everything between; often times on the same trip. In the interest of saving money, bulk, and weight, does the Superfly provide enough coverage to protect my UQ or not?

I would say the answer is "probably" to "most likely" with a very little bit of "it depends." You can really batten down the hatches when needed. If the conditions are such that you felt you needed a UQP and a Superfly, you would be beyond your normal camping conditions.
The game is the best teacher.

A uqp is nice, in that it allows you to set the tarp high enough to get around under it, while also protecting the uq from wind blown rain and splatters. Yes, I have used my uqp with my super fly to good effect.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

Like Watertooner said, 'it depends, kind of, sort of'. I use the UQP as standard Winter equipment. Often, I camp on slopes/ridges. One side of the tarp is usually higher than the other and often that's the direction the wind is approaching. The UQP just provides some additional protection against the wind.

NEED, no. The post above shows where it can be nice to have. I wouldn't, but if I didn't mind the added bulk, I would.

I didn’t buy mine until I encountered situations where I could see the value in having it. For me, that was camping at elevation with swirling winds and rain. I now also like it for colder weather.
Said differently, I bought most of my other gear first and had this on my maybe list until I found a need for it.

I never leave mine at home anymore. It doesn't matter which tarp I bring, whether it's full coverage, hex, or minimalist asym. It's the only piece of equipment that I will transfer over to whichever hammock bundle I'm using on a trip.

If it is cold, it helps with the temp and winds. If it's hot I'll hang it real low as bug protection underneath when I don't really need an uq all night.

Weight penalty isn't too bad for the many functions it adds.

My thoughts exactly. I use a variety of tarps and an UQP always goes in my kit. It's cheap insurance from wind and weather.

Not a single post yet I wouldn't agree with, in full!

This is the most me... and would only add... and now I "do" have one I rarely leave it home (I run a superfly too). At present, most useful to me as an UQ heat retainer.
