1 Windy Night in Linville Gorge

So my family and I drove up to table rock parking lot and headed south on the mountain to sea trail. Great hike with amazing views. I believe we made it to the chimneys when the wind and trail were not cooperating with us so we decided to head back close to the car and camp. It was my first night with my Warbonnet Superfly and my JRB Greylock 4. I could not get my underquilt just right so I got a little cold in the wind, but let me say that the Superfly with the outer pole mod took everything the 40 mph gust were giving it and never let loose. Slowly getting my gear dialed in but so far so good.

I like the rugged scenery...good effort.
Practice makes perfect when it comes to hanging.

Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

Great pics. Did you still get a night in camping?
That wind can be fierce in the gorge. I’ve had the tree trunks moving around on me before. Retreat is sometimes the best choice.

Yeah we still setup camp near table rock but the wind coming out of the gorge made for a miserable night.

For the places I know can be windy, I’ll check Mountain Forecast for temps and wind speeds. You can toggle F vs C and also different elevations (Mountain top vs valley). I’ll also check a few other sources and average the forecasts together.

Oh and I won’t complain about my 3 hour drive to Table Rock anymore . I looked up where you are from. Kudos on taking the family there. At least you’ll have some good stories.
