Change of plans, I'll be arriving tomorrow morning.
Change of plans, I'll be arriving tomorrow morning.
Want to meet up at Tim's about 10-1030?
Change of plans means I can't go up this weekend. Safe trip! Enjoy the cold!
Had a good time even though I had to bail early. I figured once I lost complete feeling in my left foot it was time to go. The thermometer read -22*F with no wind chill. I've been in colder but that would include a wind chill. I learned I like my gathered end in sub zero and my bridge above zero.
I did get a bunch of firsts though. First time hanging on Crown land. First time trekking across frozen lake. First time using a pulk. Was hoping for first time ice fishing but didn't get to that.
Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures because neither my phone nor my camera seemed to want to work at -22*F. lol. I do like Niger lake.
Thanks again to Jiblets for hydrating me up and Mark for helping me out with the pulk.
also forgot about that freaky sound.... Never heard tree sap freezing and exploding before. Pretty neat.

Trip report ?
Any interest in another winter hang, say march 14 weekend. Anywhere.
Lookin to test my polish laavu and diy ammo stove. I would prefer backcountry but do Valens in a pinch.
No signs,no fees,no rules, nobody. My kind of campsite.
Trip Report?
To be brief, LuvmyBonnet, Iguana and I met up at Tim's on Hwy 60 at noon. We were lucky that Troutspawn Lake Road was open due to logging and we were able to park the cars right at the lake. We checked out the point but instead chose to return to our camp of two years ago, just a hundred yards south. We were joined a little late by Jayson, Mark and eventually Quiet. We had a small fire and turned in for a wickedly cold night that gradually dropped to -22f/-30c in the wee hours before morning.
Everyone managed to survive until morning, but personally I didn't get out of my hammock until very late morning because I was so danged comfy. LuvmyBonnet rightly decided to bug out owing to his foot but around midday, ConnieB, Marty and Jiblets made their way into camp. We all made the extra effort to gather a fair amount of wood and managed to enjoy a respectable fire well into the night. I think it was only about -19c the second night.
The next morning found everyone up early and busy packing up. Jayson and Mark were long gone by the time Iguana and I headed out, followed shortly afterwards by Quiet. I'm definitely need to lose a few pounds and build up my cardio; I was sucking wind on the way back.
P.S. I'll save the results of our research into the application of advanced thermodynamics within a winter camping setting for our next campfire chat.
-----------------------
I'd be game to head out for another weekend, just nothing to difficult.

Sorry I missed the trip, but while in Belize I commemorated your trip in a traditional Mayan hammock (plus the obligatory Margarita) in your honour. Cheers!
