There should be at least two feet of snow in the bush but the snowmobile trail should be packed, if it's there at all.

The OFSC said the trail was of 'limited availablity', so if it's there, take it for about 200 yards and keep an eye out for a freshly broken trail on the left. If you'd rather head in with company, I'm sure it'll be easy to rendezvous with someone at the Timmies in Huntsville Hwy 60 on Friday morning.

I was planning on calling a couple of tackle shops in Hunstville and Algonquin Outfitters Oxtounge shop late next week to check the ice conditions. I likely wouldn't venture out onto the ice alone in any case, not until I've drilled a couple of holes to check the thickness. I'm 90% sure it's fine, but why take the risk?

Fishing: You can certainly jig with a normal rod but it'll be a little awkward because the tip tends to sway around a little more. Many a fisherman has simply used line wrapped onto a stick for jigging.

I just saw this video on Alexis' wonderful channel. I consider it a good sign regarding the conditions of where we're going.

Is it Niger weekend? If I recall it's off the Troutspawn Lake Road. We will be leaving T.O Saturday am. Is anyone heading in then? We can meet up at the Huntsville Tim's 9-930 am.

    Hiya,

Yes, we'll be returning to Niger off of Troutspawn Lake road: easy access, crown land, easy exit.

I'd like to see if the point I marked in posts 13 & 22 is suitable for a hang of hammocks. If not, then I'd suggest the "site" just a little further down on the west shore we camped at back in 2018. It's tucked back in a shallow gully with a big old willow and it's a little hard to find, but it's there.

OMG!!! My daughter wants me to drop her off at work at 7 am!!!

If Troutspawn Lake Road is navigable, I plan to drop off my gear at Niger then walk back unencumbered from the parking area around 10:30am.

Is anyone planning on going in around that time?

P.S. Don't forget to bring the long underwear. It's going to be brisk. I'm bringing my axe, green tarp and big pot. Hopefully someone's bringing a proper saw.

Well, if you do show up on Sunday, you better be packing some nice fresh walleye fillets.
