    Help dealing with ice buildup

I am currently out in a massive ice storm
Overnight we have had about a half in of freezing rain
My tarp is completely coated with about 1/4" to 1/2" of ice
All my tarp flats and stingers are completely frozen
Ideas on how to pack this up is appreciated
    Here is some.pics for reference
Been chipping away for about a half hour with very slow results
And it's still mixed precipitation and wind is picking upAttachment 178873Attachment 17887420191230_072140.jpg

If you have a stove, remove hammock and quilts from under the tarp, light the stove and very carefully operate it under the tarp, on the ground or on the snow beneath the tarp. This should help free a lot of ice on the tarp, and then once you're able to free it from the tree, hold the suspension bits a couple of feet above the heat to melt the ice there.

This works really well if you're using a topper style canister stove.

Now, for the stingers, believe it or not if you can enclose the stinger and cord in your mouth, your body heat will melt that in no time flat. Looks stupid (it does), sounds dangerous (it isn't) but it will work.

Looks as if you're in the Catskills now and I do not envy you one bit.

Been in 2-3 real ice storms over the years and that's definitely the worst stuff ever.

Well looking at the radar it seems rain is arriving soon. Gonna be a slushy walk out!

yeah, I'm in Albany NY, and the ice only really started a little while ago. Rained all night instead of the predicted ice. During ice storms in the past though, I never let the ice get thick, because it gets heavy. So periodically, I would flex the tarp from underneath and try to pop off as much ice as I could.

Just grab your lines and bend them to break the ice. And hand friction them with gloves on to get the ice off some more.
Bang the ice off of your tarp.
    Done it myself.

Good advice from others. One more: boil or at least way warm up water, pour it over the trouble spots, then shake remaining water off very quickly. But above all else: be careful with the trees! Ice storms can bring some deadly limbs, even entire trees, down on you! Seen it happen even way down south! I hate ice storms.
