    Hammock Fabric

Hey all, I’m still real new to the hammock community and I’ll be honest, I don’t really have any idea how the different fabrics work. Which one is stronger, weaker, softer, lighter, and so on. Could anyone inform me?

I like 1.6 HyperD for hammocks. Feels nice, durable, inexpensive, decent weight.

Those four things determine which fabric you need.
    What are you looking for?

I’m actually not looking to make any hammocks right now but I see so many different hyper D and hexon and nylons, I just don’t completely understand the differences between them. Was looking for some insight on it

For a start you can read through fabric descriptions here https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collections/hammock-fabric to get an idea.
Also look for weight limit info....https://ripstopbytheroll.zendesk.com...mparison-chart

As others have already said....description, specification & comparison webpages, recommendations from our friendly forum members or grab some samples from Dutchware & Ripstopbytheroll so you can eyeball the colours you fancy, check for hand/skin feel, breathability & stretchiness in certain directions across the fabric.

There's nothing like having the material swatches right there in front of you & playing with them...before making your choice.

Don't get confused by the many names. I usually look at the thread weight (Denier as in 70D), the weaving pattern (plain or ripstop - squares, diamonds etc.), and the fabric weight (sqyd/oz). This gives me an idea how stretchy the fabric will probably be, and how robust it is. As a rule of thumb, the heavier the fabric and the higher the D, the less stretch the fabric has, and the more reliable it is. A soft or natural feel is nice to have, but secondary. I take a fabric that provides a great lay but feels rough or synthetic any day over a fabric with a great hand but a less than ideal lay.

Whenever I had people test drive my hammock collection, approx. 90% did clearly prefer 70D fabrics when trying different fabrics side by side. That's why I would always recommend starting with a 70D fabric. Even those who preferred other fabrics would have been happy with 70D.

the Ripstop 1.6 HyperD is nice but the 1.8 Ripstop Airwave has a fantastic feel. Almost like a really nice cotton.
