Should I be concerned that this knot might not release at some point( a problem in the middle of a multi day hike)? The straps are slick, but they roll and behave almost like a cross between strap and rope.
Switch to the J-Bend knot and just tie directly to the CL. It comes with its own built-in tension-releasing loop.

You might also try the Lapp Hitch in this case if you want an exploding knot.

I’m headed there, practicing for an attempted At thruhike next year. The hardware makes it easier when you’re still on the steep part of the hanging curve.

Takes some finesse to get those hard knots out...been there! Good luck.
This video may give some insight.

Most simple knots, when pulled tight, have a rounded shape. The rope or strap is going shortest distance it can to travel through knot

Put thin cloth, like a T-shirt, one layer, both above and below knot. If no T-shirt use paper or a plastic shopping bag. This is to protect your strap or rope.

Place knot on floor or sidewalk or on a flat rock.
Using a hammer, or smooth stone or shoe still on your foot.
Gently tap knot, several times, with hammer or smooth stone or stomp it with your heel (still in shoe)

This will cause knot to flatten out, somewhat. It will become pancake shaped, it will not be completely flat—it will still be higher in the middle.

Now that your knot is partially flattened, the rope or strap has had to travel a greater distance inside the knot. The greater distance means that your knot is looser than before. It might be loose enough to untie easily. If not, repeat and try loosening again

    Good luck
This was so timely. I was using a tow strap to pull out fence posts yesterday. Somehow it got a knot in it that was pulled crazy TIGHT. Used a 20 lb sledgehammer to flatten it out. Definitely works; even on a larger scale! Thank you for sharing.

Invest in a sailor's knife. The "marlin spike" is designed to release knots.

The spike is also very handy for splicing amsteel.
