MN- Jay Cooke, FBH feb 21-23

Jay Cooke state park frozen butt hang.
    February 21-23
I’m also open to going up on Thursday the 20th
Please bring 2 bundles of wood for the community fire.
Up to 6 ppl per site so fees will be about $7 a night max, I think itÂ’s $14 for solo site
Cell phone service is kind of bad but the park is well signed.
Carlton is the nearest town it is a very small town with limited supplies.

This is at a state park so there are rules that the rangers have asked us to follow.
You must have at least 1 inch tree straps on hammocks and tarps. Anything that hangs on the tree requires tree straps. The majority of the trees are soft white pine with slippery bark
Do not hang on trees that are under 12 inch diameter.
    Only one hammock per tree
No more than 2 cars per site. There is overflow parking about 150 feet away
No more than 6 hammocks per site.
All wood brought in must be certified. The quick trip on I35 has certified wood($5 a bundle I think) and the park office sells wood @$6 per bundle.
No collecting firewood from the state grounds.
Be respectful. We won’t be the only campers in the park. The camper cabins are rented out on Saturday which is near our site.

The group site is closed so we will be in the main campground. Only one loop of the campground is open but you are welcome to walk in to the other sites. You will be able to self register if you want a solo site off by yourself. No reservation needed, just grab an envelope and put it in the registers box.

The warming huts and park office will be open daily from 10-4. The warming huts are large, with fireplaces and picnic tables.
Vault toilets are near the campsites.

Jay Cooke is filled with groomed ski trails, hiking and snowshoes trails and the awesome suspension bridge. ThereÂ’s plenty to do.

You are welcome to bring food to share or just provide for yourself.

The weather is not the same as Minneapolis. Please check the weather for Carlton MN to get an accurate idea of whatÂ’s happening.

Definitely interested! Might be tricky getting approval given my wife has already been pretty generous with my camping plans for next year but it is my birthday weekend so who knows. Other more likely drawback would probably be temperature. Will have my 20 degree TQ/UQ by then but as of yet I do not have the gear or interest to be freezing too much below that overnight. Maybe in a couple more years and a few more Shug videos I will be up for the lower temps. Will keep an eye on the temperatures and float the idea past my wife though.

I'm definitely considering this...I would be driving up from Iowa (6 hours). Thanks for planning this. Will you be posting a spreadsheet for sign ups?

I did get provisional approval for coming up for a night, so we will have to see what the weather is thinking about for the temp as we get closer. If there is a 20+ overnight sometime would definitely be up for a hang around the area. Got news that my TQ just shipped so looking forward to trying it out.
