Hi,
I’m planning on hiking the Long Trail next year and was wondering if anyone has experience doing long distance with a dog. She is a Black Lab-Greyhound mix and does 8 miles no problem. Well I do 8 she does 18.
Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Are you hammocking?
What’s your planned gear setup?
I've been section hiking the LT for 5 years now, I only encountered a couple folks thru-hiking with their dog, but none were that big. There's a number of ladder's on the LT, although there may be some side trails you can take to avoid them. Better examine the long trail guide book thoroughly or check onto a LT forum. Couple thoughts - don't go until AFTER black fly season (they are insane), and consider Sept - barely any AT thru-hikers (more shelter space) and usually LESS rain. I've hiked in 7 days straight rain in July/Aug, and last year in Sept it was 6 days of sun.
So are you going have your dog in the hammock with you? Or are you going to get a big bugnet to go over you both, like Dutch's bird nest bugnet?

I think theres even little hangable doghouses that hang off your suspension?
