    One Tree Hammock Suspension

I've seen a couple of videos where a person has one tree to hang their hammock and then they use a larger branch/log/stick on other end. They make a rough point on one end so it someone sticks in ground and won't kick out. They tie hammock suspension to Stick/log/branch and then on other side bring the rope down and tie into the ground, or a tree stump, rock etc.......

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this??? If so what know are you using to go around stick/log/branch and then on other side continue to ground? I saw someone indicate it should be equal on both sides. So go to middle of one and then come out middle of other side to put equal force on both sides????

A clove hitch is what came to mind but it would have the ropes coming along one side so not sure that would work.

Clove hitch, larkshead, marlin spike hitch.
Any of those three will probably work.
You don’t want that post to travel or slide along your rope.

You want to be able to untie easily when breaking camp.

My choice would be larkshead. Easy to tie, probably won’t allow post to slide either way.
    And larkshead will not jam

Post must be buried a bit in ground, so bottom won’t slide.
Post must be oriented or leaning away from hammock. This will be held by your rope. It should be impossible to force post to lean towards hammock

You’ll be coolest kid at hang

Look at the Tensa solo to maybe visualize how to anchor it off. The solo uses two tie offs from the post, one might be a little wobbly.

Does a clove hitch jam? The larkshead is similar to clove hitch, in that the rope would end up on the sides of post/pole/stick. Would that not put force on side of pole and more pressure pulling pole to side instead of back to offset hammock?

    One Tree Hammock Suspension

    Clove hitch won’t jam
    Larkshead probably easier to loosen
Not sure about pulling towards hammock

One end coming out of larkshead would go back toward your single tree
Other end coming out of larkshead would go to your secure tie off anchor

As you try different ways, you will find your own favorites, unique to your style and goals

That's brilliant. Now I have to go out into my woods and find the right tree to bend so I can have this in a few years.

    Not sure i follow.

I have one tree, my tree strap is connected to my Hammock suspension. The other side, no tree. Just using a dead stick/log.

So the other side i have my hammock suspension line going from my hammock to stick/pole/log and using a larkshead around the pole... then the other side going down to ground anchor.....?

    One Tree Hammock Suspension

Maybe watch that YouTube video of man from OZ
Showing his one pole one tree setup
The one where he picks up the perfect pole and acts all surprised (he had previously placed pole there and had already set up at least once)
    That’s OK,
He used a marlin spike hitch on single pole it must be oriented correct direction to keep pole from sliding along rope towards hammock
If my memory serves, a separate rope secures this rig from tree to pole to Secure Anchor
A simple stick or stake is not strong enough to anchor
Your straps hang off of tree and pole.
There might be a way to consolidate lines to have less lines, but that’s too much measuring and luck

I think one tree-one pole setups are a novelty with lots of work included
If you are into it—that’s part of your fun

If you set up successfully—post photos
    Thanks, Good luck

The anchor is the key IMO. My setup had a pole at one end and a tree on the other. The pole angled away - say 45* - from the hammock. I used amsteel cord from the pole down to two separate anchors.
The problem I had was the anchors would give. I could have gotten some rebar and driven that in the ground but decided screw it and moved to a different house with trees.
