    Interior pole mod

    Hey friends,

I have a chill gorilla 12x12 tarp that I have been able to rig with an interior pole using an old 12'2'' tent pole and some pins attached to the tarp side pullouts. I am having a hard time figuring out how to keep the pole centered once it is in the tarp though, it seems to slide one way or the other since there isn't a sleeve to hold it like a tent would have. Anyone have any DIY success with this?

Try fitting an internal ridge line and using a prusik knot to hold the pole. You will also need to create a water break to prevent water from migrating down the line and on to your gear.

I did a DIY internal pole mod on four tarps.. on all of them I created a small ribbon at the ridge seam to tie to the pole. On two of them I sewed it into the ridge seam (DIY tarps) but on the other two ( WB Superfly and MamaJamba) I simply sewed the ribbon to a small piece of poly and then bonded the poly patch to the tarp. Same as seam sealing. Worked a charm!!
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I took an old bicycle innertube and cut a length out of it. if you turn half of it inside out, through itself so that the two ends meet, you get a pocket. Cut a slit in one side and larkshead a small loop through it, with the other end through your side pullout. but I had old innertube to hand.

another way might be to wrap some Amsteel around the pole end, prussic-knot-style (to hold it tight) then tie the other end of that to the side-pull
