Question Zing-it Prusiks on 7/64 Amsteel?

Both pretty slick but can I put zing-it Prusiks on Amsteel continuous ridgeline and expect to get enough friction to hold.

Similarly, can I Truckers Hitch and Amsteel ridgeline?

I don't see why not. The generally accepted practice is a smaller line for the prusik. Amsteel is extreme overkill for anything tarp related, but use what you want or have on hand, as long as it doesn't stretch. Zing it is plenty strong for a RL. I quit using zing it prusik's on zing it because it locked up too often.

I use zing it Prusiks on zing it CRL but add a continuous loop next to the CRL so the Prusik goes over two layers of zingit. This holds much better than putting the prusik directly on the zing it. I got the idea from Jeff Myers who uses it on his ridgeline setup. The loop also acts as a convenient handle to slide the Prusik.

    Zing-it Prusiks on 7/64 Amsteel?

Yes zing-it prusiks on 7/64 amsteel
You can vary the number of wraps to get desired grip strength
    I use 5 or 6 wraps, giving 10 or 12 coils
Make sure that all coils are not crossing one another and prusik is dressed or tightened evenly and firmly.
Reduce number of wraps if grip is too grippy

To move a prusik that has been set tight—
Push loose end up into prusik, loosening from center, outwards.
Also can twist prusik so that outermost coils get looser too.

And (I’ve never used this one, but others have.)
A loop can be inserted or placed inside prusik

Place a closed loop of zing-it touching your ridgeline. The closed loop can be knotted or spliced. If knotted, place knot side of loop away from ridgeline. Tie your prusik around ridgeline and through your loop at same time.

To visualize, see a picture of a Bachmann hitch.
The carabiner will be replaced with the loop, in a similar way.
It will pull your prusik along your ridgeline.

Also there are photos of this loop somewhere here on Hammock Forums. And possibly Jeff Myers at Myers Tech might have photos of this loop that will help slide you prusik along tarp ridgeline.

As Phantom said....you will need to add more wraps and keep them neat. I found I would still get some slippage overnight. I switched to Nama Claws and have not had any issues with slippage with them.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

I know I don’t need all the strength but it is only 7/10ths of an ounce more per 25ft and if I need to use it for something else while on walkabout, I just as soon have the Amsteel - and I have a few hundred feet of it anyway.
