    OH: Jan/Feb, 2020: Planning thread

I would like to suggest the Great Miami Outfitters'

10th Annual “Frozen Butt Hang” Overnight Hammock Camp-Out & Pot-Luck Dinner
    Saturday, February 1, 2020

    GERMANTOWN METROPARK
    3:00 PM - Event opens
    3:00 to 5:00 PM - set-up your hammock
    5:30 PM - Dinner

CURE THE CABIN FEVER & GET YOUR HANG ON! Grab your hammocks and come on out and join us on our 10th Annual “Frozen Butt Hang” overnight hammock camp-out at Germantown MetroPark. NO HIKING required, just “hanging” out, testing your rig, and checking out other hammocks with other fellow hangers. Though the name of this event is tongue-and-cheek (no pun intended), we do not want any participant to end up with a “frozen butt.” You must be prepared for this event.* If you have any questions, please ask us.

Bring something to share (enough for 4 people) at Saturday Night’s POT LUCK DINNER (entree, side dish or dessert). After a starry night in the piney woods wake up and make yourself a hearty breakfast. Followed up by a hike to the parking lot! Don’t forget to check out the many other trails that Five Rivers MetroParks has to offer. Join Great Miami Outfitters on this overnight camp-out, exclusively with hammocks.

Your chance to WIN. We will have a "cook-off" and prizes for the top dishes in each category. You can also submit your recipe to the 2020 "Butt Hang Cook Book."

    Sorry, no pets allowed.

    COST:
    $10 per participant.

I think I'll be skipping the Frozen Butt Hang this hear. It's a great get together with lots of great food, but I'm sort of done with huge hangs like that. Just a personal thing, but I go into the woods to get away from that many people.

I'll probably just do a trip to Mohican this month. If anyone else cares to join me, let me know...my timing is pretty flexible at this point.

Anyone up for a quick hang at Mohican next week? I'm gonna head up for an overnight. Thinking mid week, but will adjust if there's interest in an other day.

Hobopelican: Where do you hang in the park? Drive in, or hike in? How many nights ya thinking?
4 hour drive for me, but might be interested.

I do the hike in to one of the park and pack sites. Little walk in and you get away from most other campers. I'm only doing overnight this time, 'cause of family issues. If you decide to come, I'll PM my phone and we can make plans offline. If you like larger groups, the 2 hangs mentioned above are good options. I'm just looking for a quieter time in the woods

Thanks for the reply. Think I will pass on a single-nighter, with the long drive.
    Enjoy your hang!

Good call! I made it to Mohican and setup at site 9...alone in the park except for another loner in site 10...I think he ditched out early.

Construction, closed roads, frozen wood that wouldn't stay lit, futzing with a zero degree underquilt that left cold spots at 27F. And on my dry week! A few hits of Uncle Jack would have been welcome!

Heads up to others heading to Mohican. The road from the bridge to the registration hut is closed. I had to back track to McCurdy Rd and circle around to the North.20200130_154653.jpg20200131_080032.jpg20200130_171737.jpg

    On to February!
