Did a quick overnighter in Linville Gorge (again). Winds were up there with some huge gusts. The Superfly with pole mod did great! Really built my confidence in this setup even more.

Great video! I really want to hike there soon.
Great video, had it all to yourself! That was a lot of wind for your tarp to handle, looks like it did a great job.
Get a set of Dutch's, "Clip-on Tarp Pull Outs" to use in extremely windy conditions like that. I clip them in the bottom middle of my tarp to prevent the tarp from blowing in on my hammock and they work well with in conjunction with the exterior pole set up like you have.
Thanks for another video. Nice job sticking with the trip and riding out the wind. Takes guts.
I'm planning on a trip there in one week if the temp with stay above 20deg. That's about as low as we can go right now. Hoping the wind is not bad either. I've been thru winds up to about 60mph there last
year and it was no fun getting rocked all night. But no matter what its a great place and it's the perfect Christmas gift for my family.
Im going to be out there for new years. Should be interesting

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing!!
I've tucked behind those same rhododendron at camp shortoff on many a windy night. Something about that freight train of a roar coming through the gorge at night that makes you feel alive. I have had the split rings on my tarp ridgeline twisted to shreds, though. Might have scared off a couple of new hangers that were with me, but all survived. Learned to keep the hang low for sure and I definitely only hang out at one of the edge sites when I know that it is going to be calm.
Good stuff. I love it up there.
