testing the Klymit V again tonight....

Hey all. I'm going to test the Klymit Static V again. It's going to be clear and a little breezy. Temps are supposed to be around 22 degrees, which is lower than last test. I've inflated the KSV more than previous test. I'm using my DIY GE hammock with a diy UQP. I've got my 1/4" GG foam pad standing by in case.

The lowest I've taken my Klymit V is 38ish. I was quite comfy but I also use a 3/8" ccf for side insulation. Here's a pic pic of my diy 11ft., 65 in wide GE with a built in SPE.

Well this was a first. Midnight I woke up to take a leak and get some water. Climbed back into the hammock and got settled in, closed my eyes and WHAM! I'm on the ground! The head end UCR slipped! Now it most likely was pilot error and maybe I didn't milk it when setting up. I had my whoopies so swapped out all around. Tonight may have made me decide to not use UCR's again. Also I will always have a headlamp in my car. Using a flashlight and doing anything that requires two hands suck. Closing my eyes...right now it's 32° and I'm warm. OK, I'm really closing my eyes.

Cinch buckle <3. I have used my Klymit insulated Hammock V successfuly down to -2c (27F). I did see some condensation at that temperature. I suspect that around 0c a UQ is superior. Reenforcing Pads with a Trail Winder or similar is of course also an option. I will go on a trip 31/1 which will probably have me do just that: use my trail winder 32degree UQ/UQP + my Klymit Insulated Hammock V. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Interesting. I have both of these, Klymit Insulated Hammock V and Klymit Insulated V, but have not tried them yet. Hope to get them out soon. Temps of 1 deg. F this morning, but crummy snow.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.

I felt the cold seeping in at around 40 with my klymit insulated alone. A 1/8 pad under that gets be to 40 comfortably, but I cant image it getting me to below freezing!
Keep the good work up, there isnt enough info on various pads in these things

Just for the database, what method were you using to secure the unloaded end of the UCR?

Good thing you had the airpad to soften the fall. Like Cmoulder, I would hope you had a knot to cap things off after the bury.

I have an eye spliced at the end that formed the prussic. I've only had one slip on me and that was the very first one I made and that didn't use the eye splice/prussic. I've hung with my current UCR's and never had it fail. I'm positive it was pilot error.....but if I'm over rocks, I'm using my whoopies!
